Color Wow makes some of the best volume stylers for fine hair, and a few products that will flatten it. Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer, Raise the Root and Dream Cocktail Carb-Infused are built to add body. Dream Coat and One-Minute Transformation are built to smooth, which is the opposite job.
Below is the range sorted by what it does to fine hair, with prices from Color Wow's own site, the honest catch with each, and a simple routine that does not build up.

From the editor
Color Wow is a brand clients buy as a set, usually after one great blow-dry. Then the volume spray and the anti-frizz spray end up on the same head, and they cancel each other out.
The rule for fine hair is simple: pick the products that lift, and use the smoothing ones only on frizzy ends, if at all.

The short verdict
Buy Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer if your fine hair is flat all over, and Raise the Root if it is flat only at the crown and part. Both are genuinely designed for fine, flat hair, and Color Wow files them under "Thin, Fine + Flat Hair".
Be careful with Dream Coat. It is an excellent anti-frizz spray, but it works by coating and smoothing, and on fine hair smooth usually means flat.
Color Wow products that add volume to fine hair
Four products in the range are built to add body. They use film-forming polymers that stiffen each strand slightly and hold the root up after drying, which is how almost every volume styler works.

1
Color Wow Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer
A light, frothy foam that Color Wow says is free of alcohol, salt and the drying resins most volumizers use. Its polymers (VP/DMAPA acrylates copolymer and polyquaternium-22) coat each strand to make the hair look thicker; the brand itself says it gives "the impression" of thicker hair, which is honest.
Use: two to three pumps per section on damp hair, combed through, then blow-dry. Sizes: 6.5 oz for $28, 1.67 oz travel for $12. Honest limitation: users report a matte, slightly "product-y" feel, and too much makes the ends harder to detangle.

2
Color Wow Raise the Root Thicken + Lift Spray
A root spray that Color Wow describes as a hairspray with styling benefits. Its elastomers form what the brand calls a "spring" at the root, and blow-dryer heat sets it.
Use: spray at the roots on damp or dry hair, then blow-dry. Sizes: 5 oz for $26, 1.7 oz for $12. Honest limitation: unlike Xtra Large, it is not alcohol-free (alcohol denat. is the first ingredient), and some users find it stiff or dry the next day. Our best root lifter for fine hair compares it with five others.
Color Wow Dream Cocktail Carb-Infused leave-in bottle, product packshot on white
3
Color Wow Dream Cocktail Carb-Infused
A heat-activated leave-in thickening treatment. This is the one product Color Wow explicitly says "amplifies fine, thin hair without weighing it down", and its FAQ says it can be layered with Xtra Large.
Size: 6.7 oz for $26. Honest limitation: layering it under a foam doubles the polymer load, so on very fine hair try one or the other first.
Color Wow Style on Steroids texture spray bottle, product packshot on white
4
Color Wow Style on Steroids Texture Spray
A finishing texture spray for dry hair that the brand says is "never sticky or stiff" and won't glue strands together. On fine hair it adds grip and separation, which reads as more hair.
Sizes: 7 oz for $32, 1.5 oz for $15. Honest limitation: it is a finisher, not a lift product, so it will not rescue a flat root on its own.
Dream Coat Supernatural Spray ($30 for 6.7 oz) is a humidity-proofing anti-frizz treatment. Color Wow calls it weightless and says it suits fine hair "if your fine hair has a frizzy or unruly texture", which is a fair qualifier.
The catch is the method: the directions say to drench damp hair and blow it out with a taut brush. That is a sleek blowout, and on fine hair a sleek blowout is a flat one. Use it only on the frizzy lengths, keep it off the root, and expect less volume in exchange for smoothness.
One-Minute Transformation ($26) is a frizz-fixing cream for touch-ups. Use a pea-sized amount on the ends only. Pop & Lock ($24) is a shine serum, and fine hair needs a drop, not a pump; our best serum for fine hair covers why.
Color Wow shampoo and conditioner for fine hair
Color Security Shampoo is sulfate-free and, in Color Wow's words, "residue-free", with no silicones or conditioning agents left behind. That is exactly what fine hair wearing polymer stylers needs, because a residue-free wash removes yesterday's film instead of adding to it.
The matching conditioner comes in two versions, and the one to buy is Color Security Conditioner for Fine to Normal Hair, a light hydrator with argan oil. Both are $26 for 8.4 oz. The shampoo has no fine-hair version because it does not need one.
Is Color Wow good for thinning hair?
For making thinning hair look fuller, yes. The volume stylers work the same way on thinning hair as on fine hair, and Root Cover Up ($34.50, eight shades) is a mineral powder that colours the scalp at a widening part until you shampoo. We compare it with fibers and sprays in the best scalp concealer for fine hair.
None of it treats thinning. Nothing in the range slows shedding or regrows hair, and Color Wow does not claim it does. If your part is widening, start with fine hair or thinning?

How to stop Color Wow building up on fine hair
Most complaints about these stylers on fine hair are really complaints about too much of them. Polymer films stack, so two or three stylers at full dose leave the hair stiff, matte and heavier than when you started.
Use one lift product per day, start with half the recommended amount, and wash with a residue-free or clarifying shampoo. Our best clarifying shampoo for fine hair lists options if your roots go flat a few hours after styling.
A simple Color Wow routine for fine hair
Wash with Color Security Shampoo and the Fine to Normal conditioner, kept below the ears. Towel-dry, then use two pumps of Xtra Large through the roots and mid-lengths, or Raise the Root at the part.
Blow-dry upside down until mostly dry, then finish with a round brush; how to blow-dry fine hair walks through it. A light mist of Style on Steroids on dry hair is optional.
Is Color Wow worth the price?
At $26 to $32 a bottle, Color Wow sits in the mid tier, and the volume stylers last a while because you need little. The value is in Xtra Large and Raise the Root; the rest of the range is good, but not specifically better for fine hair than cheaper alternatives.
Parts of the range are very good for fine hair. Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer, Raise the Root and Dream Cocktail Carb-Infused are designed to add body to fine, flat hair. Dream Coat and the smoothing creams are designed to smooth, which tends to flatten fine hair, so use them only on frizzy lengths.
Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer for all-over volume, and Raise the Root for lift at the crown and part. Xtra Large is a foam used on damp hair; Raise the Root is a spray set with blow-dryer heat.
It controls frizz on fine hair, and Color Wow says it suits fine hair that is frizzy or unruly. But it smooths the hair into a sleek blowout, which costs volume. Keep it on the lengths and away from the root.
Yes. Color Wow says it is free of alcohol, salt and drying resins. Raise the Root is different: its first ingredient is alcohol denat.
You can, but on fine hair it is usually too much. Both leave a polymer film, and stacking them makes hair stiff and matte. Try one at a time, at half dose, before combining.
It makes hair look thicker. Color Wow’s own FAQ says Xtra Large gives the impression of thicker hair. Nothing in the range changes the number or diameter of hairs or treats thinning.
Color Security Conditioner for Fine to Normal Hair. It is the lighter of the two versions; the Normal to Thick version is richer and will weigh fine hair down.
